About Rita
I started sewing with an old hand operated Pfaff sewing machine over 40 years ago, making my own clothes as finding plus sized clothing then was very difficult.  It has been a keen hobby of mine ever since and I have continued to study pattern alterations, fashion design, stretch sewing and advanced sewing techniques ever since.

Previous to starting Ritas Sewing Room in 2011, I had been teaching sewing at a variety of Sewing Centres such as Justknits and Warwick Sewing Centre for several years.  There I taught stretch sewing, general sewing techniques, beginners classes and specialty classes and workshops such as 'know your machine' and 'overlocker fundamentals'.  I also sold sewing machines, overlockers and haberdashery and am familiar with what is available.
I have had experience in using and altering most brands of pattern, handling most types of fabrics and solving a multitude of sewing difficulties.  In these classes I have worked with women and men (yes, there are a few) from young to mature with many learning styles.  I have completed my Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Further, I have been working from home doing clothing alterations, sewing for a plus size boutique and soft furnishings including cushion recovering.

I am familiar with the functioning of many, but not all, brands of sewing machines and overlockers.  Part of my job is selling and demonstrating a variety of brands and styles of sewing machines and overlockers, both new and second hand.

I love sewing and creating garments.  I also love sharing what I know in a fun and creative way. I started Rita's Sewing Room so others can share what I have learned, so you can benefit from my experiences.  So join me on this sewing journey!
