ABOUT GENERAL SEWING CLASSES

These classes are suitable for beginners to advanced learners. You are welcome to make whatever you like in these classes.

In these small classes you will receive plenty of individual attention whilst sharing your interests with like minded people.

Here you have the opportunity to undertake a project of your own choice with expert guidance.   You will be shown how to read a pattern*, lay out the pattern pieces correctly on the fabric* and follow the written instructions.  As you advance you can choose more difficult patterns and more challenging techniques.

If you are a beginner, consider making an apron or cushion cover in your first class.  This introduces you to some of the techniques and skills you will need to continue.  If you feel a bit more ambitious, choose a simple pattern* of a T shirt or pull on pants.

Maybe you have had some experience sewing and would like to improve your techniques or knowledge, such as when you would use an Overlocker instead of a machine or stretch sewing* techniques.  You could also learn to use the extra presser feet and functions of your machine or simply practice and perfect those fiddly techniques like jeans hems, blind hems or invisible zip insertions.

Or maybe you would just like to express yourself creatively?  Maybe you want to copy and make something that you have seen, remodel a favourite garment or alter something you picked up in an op shop.

In these classes you would use your own Sewing machine* and Overlocker* if needed.  This way you become more familiar with your own machine and can continue to sew in between classes.

However, if you are unfamiliar with your machine you may like to consider Individual Tuition (by appointment), or attending one or both of my 3 hour 'Know your Machine' or `Know your Overlocker' Workshops (Please check for dates).  Special offers apply!

Please ensure your machine is in good working order.

Refer to Tips section for information on Fabrics, Patterns and Sewing Equipment.

A wide variety of Haberdashery, Patterns, Fabrics, Machines and Bags available for sale or order at competitive prices.

About coming here
I have set up a large room in the rear of my house as a classroom.  It is well equipped with iron, cutting table and a small amount of haberdashery etc.  A sewing machine and an overlocker are available to hire for a nominal fee of $5 for 3 classes.

As the room is at the rear I will ask you to come up the driveway where there a 3 or 4 parking spaces.  If those spaces are full there is more parking at the front on the right side of the driveway.

Please enter through the rear doors.

INDIVIDUAL TUITION
INDIVIDUAL TUITION - $65 for the first hour then $45 for each subsequent hour.
Available by appointment only
Individual Tuition provides 1 to 1 support for those people who may need some assistance to learn about your sewing machine or overlocker. You may also use this time to master a sewing technique.

Maybe you inherited a sewing machine or overlocker or bought a new one and are not quite sure how it works. Individual tuition allows us to focus on its functions.
If you have an UFO (unfinished object) because you are stuck on a detail or technique I can help you to finish your project or task.

If you cannot bring your machine to class or find it difficult to concentrate in a group of people this service may be the solution for you.

Any make or model machine can be covered in these lessons.
What to bring to your lesson
Sewing Machine and Overlocker(if you have one), plus power cords, foot controls, accessories and instruction manuals.
Fabric with matching thread and notions (zips, buttons etc)
Pattern
Sewing Basket, Fabric scissors, pins, chalk and or marking pens, pressing cloth, tape measure, safety pins, Machine needles, hand sewing needles, etc.
You can add to your basket as needed.
If this is your first lesson and you don't know what to make a good item to start with is a cushion cover or an apron.  For either you will need approximately 1 to 2 metres of fabric and matching thread.  A good strong cotton woven fabric is easy to work with.  This can usually be completed in 1 class.  We can then discuss what you may like to learn to make in future.
I have a range of the most common Haberdashery items available for sale at very reasonable prices.

You may choose from any of the scheduled classes as long as we have the minimum number of students.
